Butler Elementary students see things differently
First-graders at Butler Elementary School turned their eyes to the sky during a recent visit with the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association.
The students looked at the sun through special telescopes provided by the association to see sunspots, solar flares and a spectroscopic view of the sun.
Five club members — Dean Covey, Tom Haugh, Dennis Hausch, Ken Leone and Shelly Myers — spent the day at the school helping students get the unique perspective.

Streamers were hung from doorways and the front office was cloaked in black in a nod to Gotham City, best known as the stomping ground of Batman. The school hosted an open-house Sept. 18 so people could see the fruits of their labor.
